A recent interview by one of my go-to beauty brands ~ Maskeraide....Check it out below...

#MYMASKERAIDE WITH SHERLYN TORRES

We caught up with some of our MaskerAide customers and fans and asked them a few questions about MaskerAide and how it fits into their fabulous lifestyle. We'll be spotlighting great people around the globe, in different industries and with different lifestyles, in a new blog feature called #MyMaskerAide

Initial thoughts on MaskerAide?

When I first saw MaskerAide’s packaging, my immediate thought was “this is really cute!” I love the convenience of having each sheet in a separate sachet which makes it very travel friendly and the fact that all of them are hydrating!  After trying the DETOX DIVA & BEAUTY REST'ORE, I was very pleased with how smooth my skin felt! Hydration is a must for my dry skin type and the added benefits the afore-mentioned sheets have are just icing on the cake.

How does MaskerAide ‘fit’ into the ‘SHERLYN TORRES’ life + work life?

Being a makeup artist requires me to be organized and on-the-go on any given day of the week. Late nights on set & early call times the next day doesn’t leave much time for me to do multi step beauty routines. That being said, having MaskerAide sheet masks on while I prep my kit and wash my brushes the night before a shoot really helps to cut my beauty routine time in half.

Which of our 6 MaskerAide sheet masks is your fave + why?

Living downtown means I’m constantly exposed to toxins and pollution in the air and both the DETOX DIVA & BEAUTY REST'OREsheet masks really come in handy when it comes to fighting free radicals while simultaneously keeping my skin hydrated and glowing at the end of a long day.

People of all professions, all over the world love MaskerAide. Have you or would you recommend MaskerAide to any of your clients? industry peers? If so, why?

I certainly have and will continue to recommend MaskerAide to my clients & friends. I usually recommend it to brides the night before their wedding day to ensure their skin is smooth & prepped for a long day of makeup the next day. I also suggest it to models and music industry pros who are constantly put through long days on set & on-stage performances  wearing all sorts of makeup. These sheet are heaven-sent for last minute calls to photoshoots & early morning press junkets to help restore their skin’s glow.

Last Question - What are you up too next? where are you travelling to?

I’m currently working on growing my side business called Beauty Inc which is an extension to my artistry but encompasses multiple artists providing makeup & hair services to larger groups of clients for special occasions / events, etc. I’ve also recently partnered up with a professional image consultant & portrait photographer on an upcoming independent makeover series called Project YOU where we will be selecting lucky individuals who may be in a rut with their beauty routines & wardrobe game and need a boost for a good cause. We want to feature individuals who truly deserve a makeover but also have an empowering story.

What are you currently listening to? Maylee Todd / Yuna / Quadron / Kanye / Fkatwigs / Banks / Miguel / J.Cole / Nas / Getatkat / Nicola Conte / Gnarls Barkley ~ too many great artists to name!

So what do you do? I’m a professional makeup artist who also styles hair on demand ;)

Take us along the path (personal & professional) that took you where you are today. I’ve been an artist since childhood ~ However, straight out of high school, I started working at the bank in order to help my family with living expenses. A couple years later, I ended up in the mutual fund industry without a real desire to work in the financial world ~ I just went with the flow during a merger and felt dependent on the steady stream of income. After working a few more years in the corporate world, I came to the realization that I’m not living my true potential. The work I was spending a good chunk of my day on was not in line with my real passion :/… I liked the people I worked with and friends I made, but deep down I knew I wanted to do something more creative for a living. I decided to enroll into an art class to revive my love for drawing and looked into another interest of mine ~ interior design. In the process, my long time friend Nicole who was currently working as a makeup artist encouraged me to give makeup a try since we've both been obsessed with beauty products since grade 8 or 9 and I often made up my sisters & cousins faces on special events. My partner Tavis also supported the idea since he knew how unhappy I was at my current job. I took their advice and pursued a career in the beauty industry and many years later I’m really glad I made the move. I was lucky to be able to make a good impact at a short time when I first came out of school but it hasn’t been a walk in the park over these years. All industries are becoming more saturated but if you stick it out and continue to push through it’s definitely worth the sacrifice.

What’s the toughest thing you’ve been faced with thus far? Losing my dad. Death is inevitable but no one’s ever going to be prepared for it when it happens. I grieved for years but learned to accept the fact and move on because I know this is what he would have wanted.

What did your parents want you to be? An architect but they’ve never been the type to place pressure. Even though they didn’t fully understand my decision to switch careers at first, they still supported me no matter what :)

What’s the best piece of advice you were ever given? Have the courage to create

What advice do you have for women who want to follow in your footsteps? Build a strong body of work | in the process, establish a brand & find your niche ~ the beauty industry is so vast so there’s many ways to branch out but try not to spread yourself too thin.

Is it possible for a woman to successfully balance both love and career? Why or why not? Yes, it’s tough but it can be done! Having off times set aside for couple outings and finding a partner who understands the nature of your business definitely helps.

What’s next for you? I’m constantly working on my personal brand ‘Sherlyn Torres Beauty’ and continuing to provide quality work as a makeup & hair artist in the fashion, beauty and advertising industry. I’ve also been contemplating on a side business for the past year ‘Beauty Inc’ which will be an extension to my personal brand but encompassing multiple artists on one roster for jobs that require a team of artists.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years… 10 years? In 5 years, owning my own studio for ‘Beauty Inc’ providing quality beauty services and products that I believe in that are in line with my personal brand. In 10 years, enjoying time with my family, traveling to places I’ve never been while generating a stable stream of income through my artistry and beauty company.

The Girlfriend Code

Pauleanna Reid featured me on her blog for "The Girlfriend Code"... Have a read & let me know what you think ;) I will leave you with one word EDIT…

THE GIRLFRIEND CODE: Sherlyn Torres Discusses Her Ultimate Life Motto & The Secret To Finding Balance

Sher

Name: Sherlyn Torres

Occupation: Celebrity Make up Artist

Twitter: @sherlyntorres

Instagram: @sher_beauty

Blog: sherlyntorres.com/beautyblog

Website: www.sherlyntorres.com

:: Sher says :: “We can create and accomplish more when we learn what to ignore… Life is such a balancing act. The only way to feel at peace is to master the art of balancing your wants & needs… That being said, my ultimate motto in life comes down to one word – EDIT. It’s a simple word but not an easy task! I think once you decide you want a higher standard of living, you eventually end up going through the EDIT process in various aspects of your life. Similar to how a naturopath approaches healthcare, find the root of whatever ails you and slowly but surely, you’ll balance out the system. If you’re feeling a little sluggish, EDIT your diet. If you’re feeling stressed, EDIT your thoughts, if you’re feeling drained with drama from external sources, EDIT your relationships…

Keep in mind… Editing doesn’t necessarily mean only taking away the bad… Also make sure that you’re adding better things to your repertoire. Life is a work in progress. Over the years, editing becomes second nature! You’ll instinctually know what to avoid ;) Sometimes it requires going through a tough situation to find out what isn’t right for you…but here’s hoping you’ll evolve from it… And in the end… you would have learned to EDIT yourself to what you truly feel is the best variation of you possible!”

:: Pauleanna says :: “Damn. I love today’s words of wisdom because I am in the process of doing some editing in my own life. In my particular case, I’m talking about part-time friends. I gotta cut ‘em loose. The only people I want in my circle are those who uplift and inspire me to be the best version of myself. When your life is filled with love and happiness, you can never go wrong.”

Peace & Love, PRxo
